Mirshad Majedi Supports Iran’s Bid to Host 2019 AFC Asian Cup
Mirshad Majedi says hosting the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in Iran will be an important achievement for Iranians. The AFC Competitions Committee will review Iran’s application for hosting this tournament in near future.
It has been more than 30 years that Iran has not hosted the Asian Cup. Iran has previously hosted the editions in 1968 and 1976.
Analysts believe that Iran should improve its poor infrastructure in the hope of hosting these kinds of tournaments. However Mirshad Majedi encourages the Football Federation to apply for hosting the AFC Asian Cup.
“Currently, Iran has great infrastructures to host the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. Luxury hotels and standard pitches are available in Iran’s major cities including but not limited to Tehran, Mashhad, Shiraz, Isfahan and Tabriz. Only a little renovation needed to be done in this regard.” Mirshad Majedi told a press-conference on Thursday.
Majedi says this event will profit Iranian businesses as it will offer great economic opportunities. “In my opinion, Iranian people will be happy to host the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in Iran. This tournament will offer great opportunities to Iran national football team, investors, businessmen and locals. The tourism sector of Iran will also take advantage of this event”
“There are many students and people who are willing to help Iran’s Football Federation to host this international tournament as volunteers. In fact, we need to use the hidden potential of Iranians. I hope the new government supports the Football Federation to host the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.” Mirshad Majedi concluded.
Ali Kafashian, the president of Iran’s Football Federation, has already negotiated with the new president Hassan Rouhani over hosting the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in Iran. Accordingly Rouhani has announced that he will fully support the Federation in this way.
