Alireza Vahedi Nikbakht Signs for Esteghlal FC
Alireza Vahedi Nikbakht, the former midfielder of Iran national football team, has joined Esteghlal FC on a two-year contract on Saturday. The officials of club have confirmed this report.
From 1999 to 2006, Nikbakht used to play for the Tehran-based football club. In his 138 appearances for this club, he scored 22 goals. However, he then decided to sign for Persepolis in 2006. This movement made Esteghlal fans furious. During his presence in Esteghlal, Alireza Vahedi Nikbakht was one of the most popular members of the team. But he lost his popularity by joining the arch-rival, Persepolis.
The Blue fans have started virtual campaigns on social networking websites including Facebook and Twitter in order to condemn the signing of Nikbakht. They believe that Nikbakht should not play for Esetghlal at this moment.
In his interview with local media, Vahedi Nikbakht promised to do its best for the team. “I’m here to give my 100% to Esteghlal. Here is my home and I will do what I could to satisfy the fans.”
Starting out in Aboomoslem and then being transferred to Esteghlal, he improved in a short period of time. His excellent performance for his club eventually leads to his inclusion in the national squad. He has picked up 77 international appearances for Team Melli from 2000 to 2008.
