Zibakalam: Reformists to Respect Rights of Hassan Rowhani
University of Tehran professor Sadegh Zibakalam said on Saturday that Iranian reformist parties will respect rights of Hassan Rowhani in forming his favorite cabinet. Rumors suggest that reformists are trying to put pressures on Rowhani over selecting his deputies and ministers.
“To be honest, reformists such as Mohammad Khatami and Mohammad Reza Aref helped Hassan Rowhani to win the presidential election. By withdrawing from the election, Aref allowed Rowhani to cast the ballots of reformists and people who were calling for changes.” Sadegh Zibakalam, an Iranian intellectual and one of Rouhani’s advisers, told reporters on Saturday.
Zibakalam went on to explain the main reason of reformist political parties for taking part in Iran’s 2013 presidential election. “As a matter of fact, the only intention of reformists was rescuing the country from the current mismanagement of conservative political parties. Currently, Iran has numerous problems and issues in almost every sector. Reformists were only trying to make a better condition for Iran and Iranians.”
During the recent eight years, Western governments have imposed several rounds of fatal sanctions on Iran’s economy over Islamic Republic’s nuclear case. These embargoes have made many problems for Iranian businesses.
The political analyst also downplayed the current rumors spread by conservatives. “At the time being, reformists are not applying any pressure on Hassan Rowhani. He is allowed to select his favorite deputies and ministers. Rowhani has yet to announce the list of his ministers since he is still considering all available options.” Sadegh Zibakalam concluded.
