Tehran Municipality Presents Modern Online Map Service
IT Department of Tehran Municipality unveiled modern online map of Iranian capital on Saturday. This Google-map like service has been introduced by Tehran Mayor, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
Ali Asghar Ghaemi, Head of IT Department, says the project of Tehran map was originally started since five years ago, and the Municipality has gradually improved the map and facilities with regard to navigation. A number of students and local companies were involved in developing this service.
“The latest version of Tehran map, which is available online, supports Persian and English. Users can find, tag and introduce the prominent locations of the city. Also news stories can be reachable base on certain locations of the city.” Ali Asghar Ghaemi remarked during the inauguration ceremony accompanied by reporters and the officials of Tehran Municipality.
Tehran map, which is first of its kind in Iran, supports street view features and 3D map. The maps are also available on mobiles and smart phones. It is expected that local technology companies develop various applications and programs using Tehran map.
Ghaemi also mentioned that Municipality has worked with local universities to improve the productivity of this service. During the recent years, Iranian government has invested in local IT projects in the hope of reducing the penetration of U.S.-based online portals in Iranian community.
“Technology offers equal opportunities to people. From several years ago, Tehran Municipality was one of the pioneer organizations in using and developing web-based services. Currently, we have managed to offer a range of Municipality’s services via Internet.” Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Tehran Mayor, said.
