Syrian Ambassador Praises Islamic Republic of Iran for Supporting Bashar al-Assad
The Syrian Ambassador to Tehran Adnan Mahmoud said on Saturday that Syrian army has managed to defeat rebels in some parts of Syria, and it is still moving forward. Islamic Republic of Iran is currently one of the main supporters of Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria. Iran has already backed Assad financially and logistically.
Regarding the aides of Islamic Republic for Syrian government, Adnan Mahmoud said: “The Syrian nation will never forget the helps and supports offered by Islamic Republic. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has announced his supports for the legal government of Syria many times, and such viewpoints are valuable for our country.”
The Syrian Ambassador also went on to talk about Iran’s attempts to establish ceasefire between Syrian army and rebellious groups. “In fact, the Iranian government has tried hard to propose constructive and positive solutions for ending current Syrian crisis. Unfortunately, a number of Arab states are not happy with Bashar al-Assad’s standpoints against Israel and the United States. Qatar and Saudi Arabia are actively sending arms and funds to terrorist groups fighting against Syrian army.”
Last year, Iran proposed a six point plan to stop the violence in Syria. However, it was not well-received by Arab states and Western governments.
“We believe that the relations and diplomatic ties between Iran and Syria will be improved in near future. However, the main problem of Syria is the crisis made by the U.S. in the hope of securing Israel’s interest in the Middle East region.” Adnan Mahmoud added about the future relations between the two countries.
