Studies Highlight Key Role of Small and Medium Enterprises in Iran’s Economy
During the recent years, small and medium-sized businesses managed to create a remarkable number of new jobs for Iranians. Although the Iranian government has not fully supported independent businessmen investing in this sector, small and medium enterprises have made extraordinary progresses.
Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Davood Manzoor said on Sunday that Iranian government should support small and medium-sized enterprises more than before. “According to the latest studies conducted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance, SMBs have played an important role in Iran’s economy.”
“Over the past few years, these businesses have created new jobs for unemployed young people despite international embargoes on Iran’s economy. We should praise the managers and directors of these businesses for their huge successes in this regard.” Davood Manzoor added.
Accordingly, the Iranian government in partnership with Ministry of Education intends to hold seminars and educational sessions in order to instruct modern economic sciences to the directors of SMBs. “Managers and owners of small and medium-sized businesses need to receive more educations with regard to operating these kinds of businesses in the country. By joining the planned sessions and seminars, they can manage to add more opportunities to their businesses.”
Based on the statistics published by the government, the unemployment rate stands on 15% in Iran. However, economists estimate that Iran’s unemployment rate is more than 30%.
“In some cases, SMBs have created more than 100 new jobs. SMBs usually get supported by governments in all around the world, so we have to follow this trend. In near future, the Iranian government in cooperation with local banks and financial institutions might be able to allocate low-interest loans to selected SMBs.” Iranian Deputy Minister of Economy concluded.
