MTN Irancell Supports Iranian Online Games

Gorz

MTN Irancell, one of the leading mobile operators in Iran, announced on Tuesday that its clients can play Iran’s online browser-based games for free. Accordingly the company is interested in supporting online games in the country by promoting them in various ways.

“The clients of WiMAX internet services are now able to play selected online games for free of charge.” A statement released by MTN Irancell read. Gorz, Speedup and Asmandez are among the supported games in this promotional plan.

“In partnership with the developers of these games, Irancell will reward top players each month. More details regarding this campaign will be released soon.” The statement added.

Currently, Irancell’s WiMAX internet services are available in major provinces and cities. However, Irancell is allowed to offer its WiMAX services in a limited number of locations since it is not a nationwide WiMAX operator. As a mobile network, it has managed to obtain a notable market share in Islamic Republic of Iran.

Gorz, Speedup and Asmandez are among the most popular online browser-based games in Iran. Asmandez II was named as the best game in Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMO) 2013. Asmandez is also available in English, where users can sign up and play for free.

The motioned games have managed to receive endorsements from Iran’s Entertainment Software Rating Association and the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.

Over the past few years, the Iranian government has supported video game manufacturers to develop more online games and applications for local users. Accordingly a certain amount of budget has been allocated by the government to Iran’s Science and Technology Ministry in order to support companies willing to invest in this sector.

At the same time, Iran’s privately-held companies are mainly suffering from lack of experienced designers, programmers and experts in this area. Most of Iran’s top universities don’t offer courses in video game fields.
