Iranian Major General Declares Support for Assad
Senior military aide to the Iranian Supreme Leader Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi says Iran will continue supporting the Syrian government under the leadership of Bashar al-Assad.
Currently, Iran is the only supporter of Bashar al-Assad in Middle East. According to media reports, Iran sends money and arms to Syria in order to repress opposition groups fighting against Bashar al-Assad.
“Syria was among the most important supporters of the 1979 Revolution. Hafez al-Assad was also the first politician celebrated the victory of the Iranian Revolution. Iranians do not forget the kindliness of Syria,” the Iranian Major General told local media on Wednesday.
According to Yahya Rahim Safavi Arab states are looking to ‘secure their interests’ in Syria. “After becoming the president of Syria, Bashar al-Assad declared support for Iran. He also supported Lebanon’s Hezbollah in political and financial manners. Unfortunately Arab states in partnership with the Western governments are instructing and funding militants to carry out operations against the Syrian government,”
“In recent three years, Bashar al-Assad has managed to maintain his leadership in Syria. However, the government of Turkey is assisting paramilitary groups in Syria in the hope of overthrowing the Syrian government,” the senior military aide to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei added.
He also went on to accuse Turkey of supporting ‘terrorists’ in Syria. “Iranian officials have already urged the Turkey’s government to stop supporting opposition groups in Syria. We strongly believe that the civil war in Syria will damage the security inside Turkey. Terrorists are currently leaving Syria for Turkey. The Turkish government should pay extra attention to this issue,”
“The existing war in Syria has claimed the lives of over 100,000 innocent people. Almost 3,000,000 Syrians have moved to the neighboring countries in order to find a safe place to live. Turkey, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon are the main destinations of the Syrian refugees,” Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi concluded.
