FC Seoul vs Esteghlal FC: Match Preview

FC Seoul vs Esteghlal FC

In next few hours, FC Seoul will host Esteghlal FC in the first leg of AFC Champions League semifinals. The second leg of this round will be played in Tehran next week.

Both teams have great chance of winning the coming match. No team has managed to defeat FC Seoul at home, and on the other hand Esteghlal has remained undefeated in games out of home.

Amir Ghalenoei, the head coach of Esteghlal, announced on Tuesday that his players will try to score at least one goal at the home of FC Seoul. However the manager of FC Seoul believes that Esteghlal’s defensive style won’t allow Iranians to score any goals in this match.

In 2004, Ghalenoei led Iran national team against South Korea. Two teams finished 1-1, and Iran lost the game to Korea in penalty shoot-out. The Football Federation of Iran sacked Amir Ghalenoei following that game. Now Ghalenoei wants to show his abilities in AFC Champions League. In recent months, he has declared his interest in Iran bench to replace Carlos Quieroz.

It is worth mentioning that Esteghlal is the most successful Iranian football club in Asian football competitions with two AFC Champions League titles.
