Esteghlal Coach: Mehdi Rahmati Deserved to Earn National Team Call-Up
Esteghlal coach Hamid Babazadeh says Mehdi Rahmati has managed to pass a ‘critical period’ after being sacked by Carlos Queiroz from Iran national team.
“As long as I serve as the head coach of Team Melli, Mehdi Rahmati doesn’t have any place in my team.” Carlos Queiroz told local media on July. The officials of Iran’s Football Federation have already urged Queiroz to settle his disagreements with Rahmati, but the Portuguese coach had refused to talk with Rahmati over the existing problems.
“Rahmati was actually shocked by the decision of Carlos Queiroz. As a matter of fact, Mehdi Rahmati used to give his best services to Iran national team over the past few years, so he was entitled to play for Team Melli,” Hamid Babazadeh addressed a press conference on Monday.
Babazadeh believes that Mehdi Rahmati is currently the best goalkeeper of Iran. “At this time, there are several high quality goalkeepers playing in Iran Pro League. But Carlos Queiroz should take advantage of the best players in the country. In my opinion, Mehdi Rahmati is the best goalkeeper of Iran, and he can help the national team in the best possible way,”
It is worth mentioning that Seyyed Mehdi Rahmati is among the most popular football players inside Iran. “By inviting Mehdi Rahmati to national team, Rahmati’s popularity will deficiently avail Carlos Queiroz. This will actually guarantee his place in the technical cadre of Iran national team.” Babazadeh concluded.
Rahmati was part of the Team Melli in the 2004 AFC Asian Cup. From 2004 to 2012, he has appeared in 75 matches for Iran national team. He was reportedly unhappy about Queiroz’s decision with regard to inviting Daniel Davari, the Iranian goalkeeper of Eintracht Braunschweig.
