Child Labor is a Widespread Phenomenon in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan Province
The recent developments in Iran’s economy have made many children in Sistan and Baluchestan Province to work in local workhouses and companies. Due to the traditional structure of Sistan and Baluchestan Province, there are only a few child foundations operating in this region to defend the rights of children.
“The current economic problems in Sistan and Baluchestan Province have made many troubles for children especially girls. In this province, girls should work in workhouses and companies to make money for their families. These places usually do not comply with national standards, and working in such places pose risks to children. On the other side, traditional families only allow boys to pursue their studies.” Mohammad Gol Bameri, a member of Zahedan city council, remarked during a press-conference.
“At the being time, children cannot take advantage of labor benefits in Sistan and Baluchestan Province. During the recent years, the conditions have been even worsened.” Gol Bameri added and urged Iranian government to take action in this regard.
“By decreasing the unemployment rate for adults in Sistan and Baluchestan, children will be able to have better welfare. Providing enough education and financial loans to families living in this province can help them to change their views in regard to children.” Mohammad Gol Bameri concluded.
