Carlos Queiroz Calls for More Government Support for Iranian Football Federation
Last week, the Iranian Football Federation cancelled the training camp of the national team in Portugal due to financial issues. Iran’s Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz says the Iranian government and the Ministry of Sports should support Team Melli.
“Iran national team is in need of technical and financial supports. The Iranian Football Federation has failed to conduct a football camp in Portugal due to lack of funds. I kindly the urge the officials of the Iranian government to support the national team in the best possible way,” Carlos Queiroz told local media on Tuesday.
“On the other hand, all the clubs and Iranian coaches should back Team Melli. Unfortunately several clubs have asked me to stop inviting their players to Team Melli’s training sessions. Even if we succeed to hold a camp for the national team, I need to take advantage of all the available players,” Queiroz continued.
The managers of Esteghlal FC have recommended Carlos Queiroz not to invite Esteghlal players. The Tehran-based team has managed to qualify for the quarter-final of the AFC Champions League. Accordingly Esteghlal players and coaches are determined to win the ACL title for the third time in the history of Esteghlal.
Carlos Queiroz also went on to criticize the planning of Asian Football Confederation for the continent’s Champions League. “Only South Korea and Japan are taking advantage of the plans of AFC. The officials of AFC should make significant changes in their strategies,”
“We need to make the final decision with regard to supporting the national team. I have managed to secure the place of Iran at the coming FIFA World Cup. Now the Iranian officials should support the team, if they expect reasonable results in Brazil.”
“The Iranian teams should offer their best support to Carlos Queiroz and Team Melli. I strongly believe that the success of Iran national team in the 2014 FIFA World Cup is much more important than the success of Esteghlal in the AFC Champions League,” said Iranian football federation head Ali Kafashian.
