Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani Urges U.S. to Ease Sanctions
Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, an Iranian influential politician, said on Wednesday that European and American governments should ease up the imposed sanctions on Iran’s economy. From two years ago, European Union and the United States have imposed several rounds of strict sanctions on Iran over Islamic Republic’s nuclear case.
“Fortunately, we have seen some good movements and actions from Western politicians in recent days. But they are not enough for recovering ties with Islamic Republic of Iran.” Ayatollah Rafsanjani, the former Iranian president, remarked during a meeting with members of Expediency Discernment Council.
“European and American states should lift barbaric sanctions. Over the past few years, the Iranian government had made numerous problems, but the next government under Hassan Rowhani will try to establish friendly ties with all countries in the world.” Ayatollah Rafsanjani added.
Ayatollah went on to ask Iran’s new president Hassan Rowhani to start resolving problems as soon as he entered the presidential office. “Currently, people are suffering from devastating issues. I personally urge the new government to do what it could to resolve current issues of the country. Assembly of Experts will support Rowhani to accomplish this though mission.”
Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani also praised Iranian nation for taking part in 2013 presidential election. “Once more, Iranians proved that they are loyal to Islamic Republic and the Islamic Revolution led by Ayatollah Khomeini.”
It is good to know that on 11 May 2013, Rafsanjani entered the race for the June 2013 presidential election, but on 21 May he was disqualified by the Guardian Council.
