Ayatollah Golpaygani Calls on Politicians to Support Hassan Rouhani
Iranian political analysts have repeatedly criticized the policies of Iran regarding its relations with Islamic states and Arab governments. In recent year, under Mahmoud Ahmadinejad the Iranian government failed to maintain friendly relations with Muslim countries in the Middle East region.
Disagreements between Iran and Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain over the regional issues have increased significantly leading to massive tensions threatening the popularity of Iran between Arab citizens.
Grand Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi Golpaygani, an Iranian Twelver Shia Marja, says Iran must promote its political relations with Islamic states.
“As a matter of fact, Islamic states are experiencing unique conditions. The Islamic Awakening (the term mainly used by the Iranian officials to refer to the Arab Spring) has caused many changes in Middle East and the structure of Arab governments,” Ayatollah Golpaygani said in a meeting with Iran’s new Intelligence Minister Seyed Mahmoud Alavi.
“I strongly believe that the Iranian government needs to establish and maintain positive relations with Islamic states. The government of Iran should also secure its benefits and interests in the Middle East region,” Golpaygani continued.
Grand Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani is a supporter of the Islamic revolution in Iran and is known for his blatant fatwa calling for the death of rapper Shahin Najafi.
Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani also went on to talk about the happiness of Iranians after the 2013 presidential election. “Iranian nationals are currently looking for massive changes in different sectors. People are happy, with compared to 2-3 years ago. I hope the new government manages to realize the dreams of Iranians,”
“Of course, Iranian new president Hassan Rouhani will face numerous problems. I kindly urge all the politicians and political parties to offer their best support to Rouhani, his ministers and deputies. By supporting Hassan Rouhani, we will be able to protect Islamic Republic of Iran.” Grand Ayatollah Golpaygani concluded.
